How to Draw A Goldfish Step by Step

I learnt to draw goldfishes when I was just in preschool. Though I was very small back then, I still managed to do a good job with this particular drawing. Even today, whenever I feel like drawing a goldfish, I follow the same approach I used back in preschool. It is a simple and straightforward way for drawing goldfishes, and even as a grown up, I appreciate that technique.

To draw a goldfish, I would always try to focus most of my efforts on the structure, especially the fins. I also kept the details and designs quite simple. To make the drawing look good, I would color it using bright shades only.

Start with the head

Give the goldfish a head like a fortune cookie.

Add the eye and mouth

Keep the mouth small and the eye round.

Start working on the body

Draw the body as you would for a regular fish.

Add the fins

Draw the fins on the top of the fish and behind its head.

Add some more fins

Draw these behind the head fins.

Now the tail

Give the goldfish a big wide tail.

Add a few details

Draw some lines on the fins.

Keep going

Continue designing the fins.

Do some on the tail

Draw a few of these lines on the tail as well. These lines are not that closely packed.

Add some scales

Draw the scales on the fish’s body.

Darken the outlines

Use a bold pencil to sharpen the outlines on your drawing.

Color it

The drawing is done. Now you just have to color your fish.
