How to Draw A Hippo Step by Step

It is super easy to draw a hippo. Their large size makes it easy for us to work out their structure. But even then, they might seem difficult to draw, especially if it is your first time drawing a hippo. I too have struggled with my hippo drawings at first, but eventually managed to get better at them. I even have my own approach to drawing hippos now, something you might fancy if you are a beginner.

Start with the large head and mouth, then the body. Do the facial expressions, and work out the other features. Finally, color it, and you are done.

Start from the head

Give it a large and circular shape.

Now the mouth

It is slightly open.

Add teeth

You do not have to draw too many of them.

Next comes the eyes

They are big and oval in shape.

Do the body next

It should be big, somewhat of an egg shape.

Add legs

The legs are rather short, but thick nonetheless.

Add some details to the face

Use a light pencil for this.

Almost done

Just a little bit left, so hang in there.

Final touches

Get a dark pencil for this.

Now we color

Let us color our cute little hippo.
